My prayers, answered (hopefully)
I went to Elly’s on the corner of Clermont and DeKalb to pick up a few things for dinner, and asked the woman at the counter, who owns the store with her husband, if they had any more scallions because the ones they had were really sad looking. “Oh, no, we don’t have anything else because the store is closing this week for renovations,” she said. “We’re retiring.”
Oh, really?
“Yes, we’ve been here for 42 years,” she said. “Someone else is taking over the store.”
Who?
“Some Korean people,” she said vaguely. “It took us two years to find the right people.”
Indeed. As much as I appreciate their longstandingness in the neighborhood, that is still super exciting news, and “Korean people,” if you’re listening, if there’s any way you could be open before 9 a.m. and after 10 p.m. we would be eternally grateful. And also maybe be open on Mondays and carry lactose-free milk? And produce that’s not almost rotting?
Thanks!
